Why it matters
Why wiring & rewiring is worth doing right
Plenty of older Renton-area homes still have knob-and-tube, cloth-insulated, or aluminum branch wiring. Those systems were fine in their day, but ungrounded outlets, brittle insulation, and aluminum connections are exactly what insurers and home inspectors flag now.
We don't tear out wiring that's safe just to sell a job. We assess what you actually have, replace the runs that are a real hazard, and plan the routing so we open as little drywall as possible.

Warning signs
Signs your home needs rewiring
Some wiring problems are obvious; many hide in the walls until they show up like this:
- Knob-and-tube, cloth-insulated, or aluminum branch wiring
- Two-prong, ungrounded outlets throughout the house
- Breakers or fuses that trip often for no clear reason
- Warm or discolored switch and outlet plates
- Lights that dim when an appliance kicks on
- A burning or hot-plastic smell near outlets
- An insurer that won't cover the home over its wiring
- Renovating, adding a room, or finishing a basement
How it works
What to expect with wiring & rewiring
- 01
Assess the system
We inspect the existing wiring, panel, and grounding to find what's actually unsafe versus what's simply old but fine.
- 02
Plan the circuits
We map new circuit runs to minimize wall damage and bring outlets, GFCI, and AFCI protection up to current code.
- 03
Permit & rough-in
We pull the permit and run the new wiring, then install devices and tie everything into the panel.
- 04
Inspect & restore
We schedule the inspection and leave any drywall openings clean and ready for patch, or patched, by agreement.
Your options
Full rewire vs. targeted work
Not every home needs a gut rewire. We'll tell you which path fits:
Fair, upfront pricing
What affects the cost
A rewire is quoted per home after we see it. What drives the cost:
- Square footage and number of circuits
- How accessible the wiring is (crawlspace and attic vs. finished walls)
- Whether the panel also needs upgrading to support the work
- The amount of drywall repair involved
- Code upgrades like GFCI, AFCI, and grounding
Every job is different, so you get a clear quote before any work starts, with no surprises. Financing is available, so the right fix doesn't have to wait. We're licensed (WESTSCS752MT) and insured, and we back our work with a 1-year workmanship guarantee.
We treat every wiring & rewiring job like it's in our own home: diagnose it right, quote it fair, and stand behind the work.

Questions
Common questions about wiring & rewiring
Is knob-and-tube wiring dangerous?
It isn't automatically unsafe, but it's ungrounded, brittle with age, and not built for modern loads, and many insurers won't cover it. We assess yours and tell you honestly whether it needs replacing.
Can you rewire my house without tearing up all the walls?
In most cases, yes. We route new wiring through attics, crawlspaces, and existing cavities to limit wall openings, and we plan the access points before we start.
What's the problem with aluminum wiring?
Aluminum expands and loosens at connections over time, which can overheat. The fix is usually proper connectors at every device rather than a full rewire, and we'll tell you which you need.
Will rewiring make my home insurable again?
It often does. Insurers commonly flag knob-and-tube and aluminum wiring, and replacing or remediating it, with permits and inspection, is what they want to see. We document the work for you.
